West Gates Elementary

Fieldwork Participant, Grade 3 Copiague, NY (January 2022-May 2022)

  • Closely observed how to manage a third-grade classroom by watching cooperating teachers' expectations, how she encouraged teamwork, and the growth within the students mindset. 

  • Assisted the students in math and teamwork skills by using blocks, white boards, and classroom worksheets.

  • Reinforced kindness and proper behaviors within the classroom.

  • Participated in multiple “center” work in small groups during every observation. These centers included: site word practice, reading comprehension. 

  • Have assisted children in recognizing sight words and spelling within each center by showing them flashcards, playing multiple site word games such as “concentration”. 

  • Read children stories during “brain break” sessions. Allowed children to express how they felt during the story while resetting their minds to continue classwork assignments.
